We have had LOTS OF FUN fishing with Captain John Giszczak. His expertise and years of experience fishing Lake Erie have allowed us to limit out many times.

This is more than a hunting trip!  See the sights of Old Montreal before departing  to base camp on a chartered jet.  From there you will be transported by floatplane from the base to an outpost camp where you will enjoy a hot shower, a warm bed and great food while hunting 2 caribou for a week.

“Complete” American Package $5290  All inclusive from Montreal and back: Chartered jet to Caniapiscau (base camp), Floatplane from base to outpost camp, fully guided, all meals at camp, fully equipped wooden camp for 6 hunters, hot shower, flush toilet, boat, motor and gas, meat house and dressing of your meat, salt for your capes, cheesecloth and transportation boxes, refrigerated storage at base camp, way in weight allowance – 60# per person, way out weight allowance -    3 meat boxes 65# each, 2 caribou racks. Not included: Non-resident license for 2 caribou $293 CAN and a night lodging at the Sheraton 4 Points in Montreal (Explo-Sylva’s greet and park) prior to early am fly out.

“Intermediate” Modified American Package $4790  Same as above except it is not fully guided. There is a camp steward who does the cooking and gets you on the caribou. He does not spend the day hunting with you or pack your meat out.

“Expedition” Housekeeping Package $3990 Same as above except it is not guided, you bring your own food and do your own cooking, 6 or 12 person camps, way in weight allowance – 110# per person includes food.

You will walk and/or use a boat to reach favorable hunting sites as Explo-Sylva camps are situated between the roaming areas of the two biggest herds, the Leaf River herd and the George River herd.  With more than 30 hunting sites located on 75 000 km2, they are very flexible to accommodate their hunters according to the caribou’s migration.

The hunting season spreads from August to the end of September and usually offers a good kill ratio. To date, Explo-Sylva has the best kill ratio in Northern Quebec.

Caribou lose their velvet around mid September. Two animals can be taken.  Use firearm or bow at ranges anywhere between 10 and 300 yards. Recommended firearms are  243, 308, 30.06, 270 and 300 calibers with 150 grain bullets. Bows must be at least 40 pounds and arrows with very sharp broad heads.

Colorado has the highest population of elk of any state!  Unlike some western states, Colorado does not have wolves which have decimated some of the other western states populations of elk.  Out outfitting partner has secured outfitting rights on the West Slope of the Grand Mesa.  Elk populations in this area are flourishing. Mild winters along with a tough to reach wilderness region make this one of the most affordable high success elk hunts anywhere!

Your trip will start off at the trailhead at the base of the wilderness area.  Your gear and camp supplies will be loaded on a string of fine mountain horses and mules.  From there you will journey four miles back into the wild.  The views will take your breath away as you make your way to camp.  Accommodations during your hunt will be at a true wilderness wall tent camp.  Although the camp is very basic, most hunters really enjoy this aspect of this hunt.

Each morning your guide will wake you up and go over the game plan for the day.  These professional guides love to chase big bulls and know where they like to feed and bed.  Most mornings you will leave camp striking out in the dark hoping to intercept the bulls as they make their way from feeding to bedding grounds.  Expect high success as your guide’s goal is to get you as close as possible to your game!  This is an exciting hunt and you should be prepared to go on some extensive hikes.
